A Perfect Foundation
We’ve all seen them and, what’s more, most of us have worn them: the outfits that bear little resemblance to the figure beneath. And this has nothing with being too fat, too thin, or otherwise ‘lacking’, but everything to do with the way an outfit hangs together. You’ve got the perfect trousers, the prettiest top, but it’s still not right. If this sounds familiar to you, you need to look to your underwear.
In the 1950’s, the female form was cinched and smoothed into a perfect silhouette with the help of conical bras, girdles & layered petticoats. All terms which, until very recently, would have elicited a schoolgirl giggle from even the most mature amongst us. It is said that, back in the 50’s, one in three British women wore Marks & Spencer underwear, and with the return of control underwear, in the guise of their ever popular Magic Shapewear range, this statistic seems set to return.
After years in the sartorial wilderness, control underwear is back with a vengeance. Granted, it has been largely due to the ‘Trinny & Susannah effect’, but this doesn’t detract from the fact that this stuff actually works. And, let’s face it, we all benefit from some help in the Sheepdog Stakes (round it all up and point it in the right direction…). Even the slimmest amongst us looks better with the correct underwear to smooth out any lumps & bumps, and to provide shape & lift.
Forget all thoughts of granny’s big knickers that were uncomfortable & unsightly. The new generation of control underwear is light years away. Devised with the help of sports scientists, M&S say their range is targeted towards ‘fat hotspots’, and provides breathable zones where needed. A special finish keeps the fabric cool against the skin, and the colours, trim & patterns available are so pretty you won’t feel embarrassed in the changing room. And with styles ranging from cupped bodies to string knickers (with support panel for the tummy), there is a foundation garment for every outfit.
So when you’re contemplating your floaty dress or
linen trousers this summer, spare a thought for your silhouette. Make the most
of the beautiful weather in a stylish outfit and feel great!
